David Cook Performs, His Mom Gets Close to Steven Tyler on 'American Idol'

In anticipation of his upcoming album, seventh season winner David Cook performed his new single, 'The Last Goodbye,' on the 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) results show. But his mother may have been even more excited to be returning to the stage that made him famous.David Cook, 'American Idol'

After his performance, Cook revealed to Ryan Seacrest that when she found out about him being on the show, she said, "I just want to meet Steven Tyler." So Seacrest made it happen.

"I'm watching you, man." Cook said as his mother made her way to the dais for two very warm and close hugs from Tyler.

"We're gonna have to have a conversation when the cameras go off," Cook said sternly. Making a spectacle like that on national television. Honestly! Actually, the whole encounter was very cute, and Cook was clearly having fun in the situation.

What did you think of Cook's return to the 'Idol' stage?

David Cook returns to 'American Idol,' performs 'The Last Goodbye'

"American Idol's" Season 7 champ David Cook finally returned home on Thursday, Apr. 21, for the Top 7 results show. The appearance kick-started promotion for his sophmore album
"This Loud Morning," which will be released on June 28.

Cook performed the first single off the new album "The Last Goodbye," which we think is going to be a huge hit on the radio. The single is now available for download on iTunes and Amazon. Cook looked great in his all-back suit and perfectly coiffed hair (yes, we're that vain) and he sounded great.

zap-david-cook-idol-gbye.jpg"It's great to be back!," Cook said after his performance, but was kind of drowned out by the crazy loud audience, which rivals the audience reaction Adam Lambert received when he returned to "Idol." Cook's mom also came... but just because she wanted to meet Steven Tyler. Too. Cute.

May 1, Cook will be participating in the 14th annual Race For Hope in Washington, D.C., which is a 5K run/walk that helps fund a cure for brain tumors and brain cancer. This is Cook's third year participating in the event and you can find more information on how you can participate and help on his official website.

It's good to have David Cook back, no? Were you excited about Cook's return to the "Idol" stage? What did you think of his new single "The Last Goodbye"?

American Idol | Carole King | Crystal Bowersox | Bruno Mars | Katelyn Epperly | Brooke White | Gordon Lightfoot

After tonight’s elimination, six remain on “American Idol” (seen locally on FOX 5 NY) as Stefano Langone was voted out of the competition. Not long after it was quickly revealed that when the show continues next week the cast will be taking on the songbook of Carole King.
The winner of four Grammy Awards and a member of the Songwriters Hall Of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, King is one of the most influential female musicians of all time. In fact, she holds the record for the longest time for an album by a female to remain on the charts as well as the record for the longest time for an album by a female to hold the #1 position, for her 1971 album Tapestry.
Among her most famous credits are the songs “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” "I'm Into Something Good," "One Fine Day" and "Up On The Roof." Recently, she recorded “Live at the Troubadour,” a collaboration with James Taylor, which in its first week hit #4 on the charts. You can watch a clip from the DVD of that concernt in the embedded video to the left of this article.
Rising star Bruno Mars was also announced to be performing on the weekly Thursday results show. Fans of “Idol” may remember his single “Grenade” was one of the songs the contestants had the option of singing during the Hollywood week auditions at the seasons start.
You can watch the remaining six Idol hopefuls (which include Casey Abrams, James Durbin, Haley Reinhart, Lauren Alina, Jacob Lusk and Scotty McCreery) next week on Wednesday at 8pm EST on FOX 5 NY.

American Idol 10 Top 6 – Songs of Carole King + Crystal Bowersox & Bruno Mars

Next week, the American Idol 10 Top 6 sing the songs of Carole King. And in a fitting bit of Idol casting–Crystal Bowersox will be in the house to perform on the Thursday results show! Oh yeah. Bruno Mars will be singing too. Sadz for Stefano that he won’t be around for that.
Carole King is known for a huge hit album she released in 1970 called Tapestry. But she’s written scads of songs that were hits for other people. From acts as diverse as Aretha Franklin, The Monkees and The Shirelles. So, this could be a very interesting night of music!
Get started with the speculation now!

Carole King is the 'American Idol' Top 6 theme

The theme for the "American Idol" Top 6 contestants was announced Thursday night (April 21) at the end of the results show - it's Carole King, which should prove interesting.
King is a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and we are big fans of her music. "Tapestry" is really her watershed effort - the 1971 album was named No. 36 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest Albums of All Time.

But we aren't sure how the Idols are going to handle her music. Katelyn Epperly covered "I Feel the Earth" move in Season 9 and got carole-king-getty.jpgpans from the judges, then was sent packing. Brooke White took on "You've Got a Friend" in Season 7 and did very well, but Carole King is right in Brooke White's wheelhouse. King's songs are quietly great and kind of niche - this year's Idols are going to have to really make them their own or it's going to be a long night.

If you're wondering where you've heard the Carole King that is non-music related, she had a recurring guest role on "Gilmore Girls" as Sophie Bloom the music store owner and also sang the opening title song for the show.

The remaining six American Idol contestants will perform the songs of singer-songwriter Carole King next week.
The announcement was made on Thursday night's elimination episode, which saw finalist Stefano Langone being sent home.
Among the songs written by King: "I Feel the Earth Move," "I'm Into Something Good," "The Loco-Motion," "Just Once in My Life," "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "One Fine Day," "Some Kind of Wonderful," "Take Good Care of My Baby" and "You've Got a Friend."
Soon after the announcement, King became a trending topic on Twitter, with the majority of tweeters passing on the news and suggesting certain songs for the contestants.
There were some disappointed fans, though: "@AmericanIdol Carole King??? Come on...I love her but there is not enough variety. Next you'll be rolling out Gordon Lightfoot," griped a Twitter user identified only as Chessplayer999.
Also next week, singer-songwriter Bruno Mars and last season's runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, are set to perform on Thursday's elimination episode.
